Caring students comfort sick kids
STUDENTS of the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) have been visiting KL Hospital’s Pediatric Institute every Saturday.
The Kids 4 Kids (K4K) community service club members spend about two hours with patients in the children’s cancer ward over activities such as sand art, coloring, caramel making, cup stacking, T-shirt painting and ddak-ji, a Korean game played with cardboard disks.
On a recent visit, the K4K members treated the children, who number about 100, to a jazz and acoustic performance, followed by a session with the clown. Each child received a soft toy, goodie bag and a box of KFC’s fried chicken.
“The students just want to share some of their time with the children with the hope of helping to ease their pain even though it’s just for a while,” said ISKL head Paul Chmelik.
One of the students, Nur Aisyah Zulkifli, 18, said she was happy to be a part of the activity.
“It is such a pleasure for us to come here and make the sick children happy. It is the least we can do,” she said.
Also present were last year’s Miss Universe Malaysia Deborah Henry and TV host Henry Golding. They were brought to the event by DZMS Events.
Chmelik said the students were also involved in community service at Wawasan Orphanage.
